Main Herb Bed
This short tour of the garden is taken from the guide book and takes you on a clockwise tour of the garden where you will first see the MAIN HERB BED which runs the length of the top greenhouse. This was planted in 1986 and contains a mixture of culinary and medicinal herbs with a section devoted to dye plants. One of the most spectacular plants in this border is the giant Tibetan rhubarb (shown).
These represent a small fraction of the 900 herbs in the garden including trees such as Ginkgo, bushes such as Bog myrtle, wildflowers and poisonous plants. The guide book provides further details on the herbs in this area and their uses.
At the end of the Main Herb Bed turn right along the east wall and on your right is the Mediterranean Border
and discover the Herb Bed, Roman Garden, Thyme Bank, Pool Garden, and Greenhouse. Knot Garden, and see the various themed borders such as Long Border, West Wall Border, and the Herbaceous Borders.
